Monitor Upgrade

Saturday, May 13, 2006 – 6:13 pm

I caved this afternoon and decided to finally purchase a new monitor.

Back in 1998, I bought an awesome Viewsonic P815 - 21 inches of glorious color. Unfortunately, while living York Beach 2 years ago a power surge knocked out the monitor. I never could justify having it repaired, but at the same time I didnt want to throw it away for somewhat sentimental reasons.

Today, I was lucky to find an awesome deal with Circuit City. I went to Newington NH for some tax-free shopping and stopped in to compare their stock with Best Buy. I’ve come to realize how overpriced Best Buy has become over the past few years. Circuit City did not have the monitor style I wanted in stock, however they brought me over to an online station where I could see their website and compare prices. They were having a web-only sales event on their website. I found the one I wanted and for a price I could not pass up. And without further ado, here’s the monitor I shall possess in 3 business days :)

The VX2025WM - 20.1″ Widescreen LCD. MSRP for this model is $495.00 on the Viewsonic website. I got it for $377.87 after tax and 2-day shipping. Totally wicked. I anticipate it’s soon arrival. I think it will make a great addition to my workstation. It’s kind of sad, but it will be larger than our present TV (which I hope to soon replace with a new HDTV theater system… but more on that at a later date). Yay for new toys!

  2. I’m so glad you got what you were looking for and you nabbed the opportunity when you had it. I totally understand needing something, like, NOW. I did want you with me and my mom on Saturday, but you would have had a less than great time. She and I needed alone time, too. I love you soooooooo much!

  3. That does sound like an awesome monitor. But for photography related stuff, its all about the pixels per inch.

I know how you feel in regards to a new monitor. I love the one I have (even though its huge and bulky), and has been amazing in all its use. Mom offered to get me a new one, so it wouldn’t take up room, but the problem is the dpi sucks on those. So I ended up shipping mine back to NY instead of buying a new one. It would have probably cost the same, to get a cheap low-end one. Pfft.

And I’ve noticed that with Best Buy as well, but the deals are when its advertised, otherwise you’re pretty much out of luck.

But I went into Fry’s Electronics in Phoenix for the first time this summer, and I thought I had died and gone to electronics heaven. It was AMAZING.

I think the website is outpost.com, but google it. They have one in Roc, and now I’m curious about it. I bet its not the mega-monolith (or whatever) that the Phoenix store is, otherwise I’m sure I would have heard about it in the 6 years that I’ve lived here.
