Surface Computing
Saturday, June 9, 2007 – 6:24 pmMicrosoft is working on multi-touch or Multiple Input Processing technology in the realm of surface computing. In the interview with Popular Mechanics (shown below), they describe how the technology is wireless and can seamlessly interface with other wireless devices, allowing them to communicate and share data.
I think this is an amazing step in the right direction… I’m just a little disappointed it has taken so long to catch on. They mention some corporate/retail releases of this technology before the end of 2007. I could see this type of interface really making a large impact on the medical imaging aspect of healthcare. If they can get the surfaces to display a high enough resolution, it could make viewing MRI and CT images much more effective and intuitive.
I especially like that part at the end… seriously… controlling your entire home entertainment system from a large multi-touch tabletop in the livingroom. How awesome would that be?!
